Fame Again (well, in the Courier)

BlogThe Courier recently reported on the council investing significant funds in developing paths and cycleways, and we get a very honourable mention! Click here or on the picture to see the full details.

It’s always good to be mentioned in the press or the social media, as every exposure is to a large number of people, and spreads the message that many of us care for our paths and countryside. And might just persuade someone to follow in our footsteps!

Our Extraordinary Litter Picker

One of our more intrepid members has been recognised nationally. Andy wasn’t sure he wanted the recognition, saying “I prefer keeping a low profile but I think the award can help to highlight the issue of coastal litter and the work done by me and East Lothian Rangers in trying to keep the East Lothian coast clean and an enjoyable place for visitors and the wildlife in the area”.

We all thank you for your dedication and inspiration to keep East Lothian looking beautiful.

Christmas Lunch

We really enjoyed our Christmas lunch at the Main Course in Gullane. Was it that the food was outstanding? Or was it the company? Or was it we were hungry and thirsty after walking from Aberlady? Or all of the above! And thanks again to Duncan – for arranging the ideal winter walking weather. Some pics above, or the full video below!

New Path Descriptions

1-page-descrWe know you Path Wardens love your paths. Why not share your knowledge and enthusiasm – write a description yourself! The ELC have already produced a dozen 1-pagers and are planning more. But what we also need are more extended descriptions: Dave Hapgood has produced our first. See them all on our Path Descriptions page. And if you do get serious about this, see some other examples of what could be done on the page Example Path Descriptions.

Our Monthly Reports

The monthly reports that us path wardens (usually!) submit are – apart from being a mechanism to report issues for action to the council, a satisfying way to recall and record how useful we have been, and a great way to show to sponsors just how busy we are, – are actually quite fascinating variety of tasks, times, and reporting styles! See the pdf for September (or find the full spreadsheet in the library section).

AGM

The ELVPW Trustees had their AGM on the morning of Thursday 23rd June in the Hope Rooms, North Berwick. Two trustees – Mike Traynor and Nick Morgan – stood down although Nick will attend Trustees meetings as a Council official. Their two seats were filled by Graham Pettigrew and John Laws. Dave Oldham takes the position of Secretary which was held by Nick Morgan. Andy Stevenson and Duncan Priddle continue as Chair and Treasurer respectively as do Dave Quarendon and Thomas Bower as Trustees. Not sure who they are? – Check them out on the Trustees page.
Priorities for the coming year were then discussed – issues such as promoting the work of path wardens by stickers on path signage and organising a SpringTyne Stroll for 2017 were raised. Linked to this latter issue, the training of path wardens for leading guided walks appeared to be well received. There was also discussion of coordinating path wardens work with that of Amenity Services staff and encouraging wardens to submit monthly reports.
There then followed a talk by Carl Howman,  ELC’s Dog Warden. Stray dogs, fouling and aggressive dogs were discussed and an interesting and informative debate followed.

News

Well I guess we’ve been so busy there has been no time to report all the news here. Fortunately Katty has done it for us! Her newsletters include a lot of our activity, and are beautifully presented – they are all stored here in our Library.

And if you want to know what the committee has been doing, all the minutes of our meetings are there too.
